Nissan Interest Rates Explained: How APR Affects Your Monthly Payment
Understand how Nissan APR, lease money factors and promotions change your monthly payment in Québec — and how a 1% rate difference moves the total cost.

Interest is the single biggest variable in what your Nissan actually costs you. A 1% difference in APR can move your monthly payment by tens of dollars and your total interest by thousands. Here is how to read the numbers as a Québec buyer.
APR, the money factor, and you
APR (annual percentage rate) is the cost of borrowing expressed as a yearly percentage — used for financing. Leasing uses a money factor, a small decimal that is simply the APR divided by 2400. A money factor of 0.00080 equals roughly 1.92% APR. Always ask your advisor to convert it so you can compare apples to apples.
Understanding both terms matters because dealers and leasing companies will quote whichever sounds lower in context. A subvented lease ad promoted as a 0.00020 money factor may sound tiny next to a competing finance rate of 4.99% APR — but multiply that money factor by 2400 and you find the equivalent rate is 4.8% APR, which makes the comparison honest.
The payment formula
For a fixed-rate loan, the monthly principal-and-interest payment is:
M = P × [r(1+r)^n] / [(1+r)^n − 1]
Where P is the financed amount (price + Québec's 14.975% tax minus down payment and trade), r is the monthly rate (APR/12), and n is the term in months.
The important takeaway from the formula is the compounding-style denominator: as the term (n) grows, the payment drops, but the total interest climbs faster. A 72-month loan can carry meaningfully more total interest than a 60-month loan at the same APR, even though the monthly payment feels more comfortable.
A financed $40,000 Rogue at 5.99% over 72 months with $4,000 down and a $5,000 trade yields roughly ~$615/month before taxes — but the exact figure depends on whether taxes are capitalized. Our calculator handles this for you.
Why a 1% rate matters
On a $45,000 financed over 72 months:
| APR | Monthly (pre-tax) | Total interest | | --- | --- | --- | | 4.99% | ~$716 | ~$6,350 | | 5.99% | ~$746 | ~$7,700 | | 7.49% | ~$787 | ~$10,660 |
That ~$30–$70 per month is real money over six years. Compounded, a 2.5% rate gap can add roughly $4,000 in interest to the same car.
Nissan promotional rates
Nissan regularly runs subvented promotional APR and lease cash on new models — sometimes 0.99% or 1.99% APR for qualified buyers on select trims. These promotions rotate monthly; check our offers page for current factory incentives in Québec.
These subvented rates are partially funded by Nissan Canada as a sales incentive, which means the lender is accepting a lower margin to move inventory. They usually require above-average credit, reasonable loan-to-value, and a new (not used) vehicle. When they apply, they can cut years of interest cost compared with a conventional bank rate.
What sets your rate
Several factors push your offered rate up or down. Knowing them in advance helps you arrive prepared.
- Credit score — the biggest factor
- Term length — longer terms usually carry slightly higher rates
- Down payment / loan-to-value
- New vs used — new Nissan vehicles typically qualify for the best promotional rates
- Model and current incentives
Québec tax note
Sales tax (14.975%) is charged on the financed amount when you finance, and on each monthly lease payment when you lease. It is not interest, but it must be in your comparison. Financing capitalizes the full tax into the loan; leasing only taxes each monthly payment.
