Nissan End-of-Lease Protection in Québec: Avoiding Wear-and-Use Charges

Returning a leased Nissan should be painless — but surprise wear-and-use charges are the single most common complaint at lease-end. Here is how Nissan's End-of-Lease Protection works and how to avoid the bill.

What counts as normal wear

Nissan, like every manufacturer, applies a wear-and-use standard at turn-in. Normal wear typically includes:

  • Minor stone chips on the hood and front bumper
  • Light scuffs on interior trim
  • Tyre wear within legal limits
  • Small dings under a defined diameter

Anything beyond that — a cracked windshield, curbed wheels, torn upholstery, dents above the standard, or tyres below the legal limit — becomes a chargeable item at turn-in.

Excess wear charges add up fast

Typical turn-in charges we see:

  • Cracked windshield — replacement cost
  • Curbed or damaged wheel — refinish or replace
  • Torn seat upholstery — repair or replace
  • Tyres below 4/32" — a full set of factory-size tyres
  • Dent above the standard diameter — paintless dent repair

On their own these are small; combined they can add $800–$2,500 to a lease return.

What end-of-lease protection covers

Nissan's End-of-Lease Protection (often included with select Nissan leases or available as an add-on) waives covered excess wear-and-use charges at turn-in, up to a defined limit. It covers the most common chargeable items:

  • Dents and dings up to a set diameter
  • Scratches and paint damage
  • Interior upholstery and trim damage
  • Cracked or chipped glass
  • Wheel damage

It does not cover excess kilometre charges, missing parts, or damage from neglect or abuse.

How to keep your lease-end clean

Even without the protection plan, simple habits prevent most charges:

  1. Walk-around the vehicle monthly — catch dents and glass chips early
  2. Repair the windshield as soon as it chips; Québec road salt widens cracks fast
  3. Keep tyre condition in mind — replace worn tyres on time; an old set at turn-in is one of the most common charges
  4. Detail the interior before turn-in — clean reveals the actual condition; a pro detail often pays for itself
  5. Schedule a pre-inspection — we offer a no-charge walk-around 60 days before turn-in so you can fix anything in advance

The honest answer

If your lease includes the protection plan, great — keep it. If it doesn't, weigh the cost of the plan against your expected turn-in condition and how much of the wear you can fix yourself. Drivers whoirota care and clean interiors rarely net out ahead buying the plan; families with kids, pets or highway commutes usually do.
